Troop 89 |
Activities We are a very active troop. We feel that camping and the outdoors are a very important part of the scouting program, and we strive to go camping as a troop at least once every month. Our 2010 Calendar of Events includes many exciting camping, hiking and high-adventure opportunities for every rank and age level. Our regular activities include: Troop meetings every Monday night Yearly high-adventure trips (for older and more experienced scouts) Community service projects High Adventure We emphasize backpacking and high-adventure camping as part of our troop program. In July, 2010 we took a trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Northern Minnesota. canoing and portaging over 50 miles across some of the country's most remote wilderness. In July 2011 Troop 89 will go to Boy Scouting's premire high adventure trip, Philmont Scout Ranch. Troop Handbook Our Troop Committee has written a Policies and Procedures Guide (.pdf file) to help educate new scouts and their parents about our rules and guidelines. Patrols We see the patrol method as the basis of the entire scouting program. Boys are split into small, youth-led groups. These groups plan and cook their own meals, plan their own meeetings, and have their own campsites. They work as a team to achieve all the goals of camping. This teaches them leadership skills that they can't learn just about anywhere else. |
